A well judged ride from the front saw Excellent Beauty breakthrough for her first win in the $65,000 Restricted Maiden over 1400m on Friday night.

Ridden by Eric Legrix, Excellent Beauty held on to score by a neck over Eternal Rose (Soo Khoon Beng). Zambezi Rush (Joao Moreira) and Mary¡¯s Success (Barend Vorster) shared third place, a length-and-three-quarters further back.

Trainer Steven Burridge described Excellent Beauty as ¡°gutsy¡± and praised the winning ride of Legrix.

Excellent Beauty (Eric Legrix) on the inside holds off Eternal Rose (Soo Khoon
Beng) to take Race 2 on Friday night.

¡°It was a good ride by Eric,¡± said Burridge. ¡°I¡¯m happy for him as he hasn¡¯t been having a lot of luck of late.

¡°I was a little worried that he might have gone a bit hard early, but he stacked them up nicely and kicked clear at the right time.

¡°But it is a long way up the straight on the outer course and I was hoping the line would come up quicker than it did.¡±

A veteran of just three starts, Burridge said Excellent Beauty had been a victim of poor barrier draws but was able to overcome it on Friday night.

¡°She hasn¡¯t had a lot of luck at the barriers but has performed very well,¡± said Burridge.

¡°She didn¡¯t draw all that well again tonight, but she showed good pace to get across. She¡¯s a gutsy little filly and hopefully she will continue to go forward from here.¡±

Excellent Beauty was bred in New Zealand and was a NZ$40,000 yearling purchase. She¡¯s by No Excuse Needed from the Desert Prince mare Chatto Creek and has now won around $55,000 for Kelvin¡¯s Stable.
