Dr Tan Kai Chah’s Hippocrates Stable continued their recent good run of success when Yari Cozzene scored in the $55,000 Class 4 Stakes over 1700m on Wednesday night.

A host of winners have been carry the Hippocrates Stable colours of yellow and purple checks to victory with the most notable being Jolie’s Shinju in the recent Group 1 Emirates Singapore Derby.

Ridden by Danny Beasley, Yari Cozzene scored a comfortable two-and-a-half length victory over Grande Swift (Joao Moreira) with Star Talent (Saimee Jumaat) three-quarters-of-a-length away third.

Trainer Stephen Burridge said it was pleasing to prepare a winner for Dr Tan.

“It’s nice to get a few of Dr Tan’s second stringers and to be able to get a winner or two for him,” joked Burridge.

The trainer said he had concerns prior to Yari Cozzene’s success when the gelding sweated up badly.

“It was just dripping off him out in the parade ring so under the circumstances he’s done a good job,” said Burridge.

“Danny rode him well. He can get his head up and do things wrong, but Danny got him to settle.

“The strong pace certainly suited him, but I was a little worried when he got left in front a long way out.

“Tonight he had the rail to guide him and that helped him a lot. It kept him from running about in the straight.”

Yari Cozzene is a Japanese bred four-year-old by Star Of Cozzene from the Soviet Star mare Nishino Royal and in winning his second race from 10 starts with a further two second placings took his prizemoney close to the $90,000 mark.
