Stables Mourn the Tragic Death of Top Track Rider

Everyone at the Burridge Racing Stables is mourning the sudden and tragic death of one of their top track riders, Agong, who was pronounced dead at Singapore General Hospital on the morning of Wednesday 29th August.  Agong had been riding his normal morning track work when he took a fall from his mount “Maxim Gun” from which he did not recover.  The exact cause of death is, as yet, unknown.

His death comes as a huge personal loss to Steve and Julie Burridge who have known and worked with Agong for many years.  He had ridden as a track rider in Singapore for the Burridge Racing Stables for the last four years and was both well liked and well respected by all who knew him.  An “affable chap” who had been with the Turf Club all his life, Agong’s jokey character belied his skill as a top track rider and sympathetic horse handler.  His years of experience made him an exceptional pacemaker who never allowed his horses to work too fast in the gallops, as well as a reliable member of staff who not only worked hard, but was always on hand to boost morale. Not least, he was renowned for his excellent morning coffee, which he produced every day at 8:30 a.m. during the break while the track was being rolled.  Expressions of sympathy have been received from those who knew and worked with Agong in both Singapore and Malaysia.  He will be sorely missed.

Steve and Julie would like to offer their sincere condolences to Agong’s wife and family.  The funeral is to be held on Thursday 30th August.
