A delighted Steven Burridge did not fail to thank his son Wade for picking Sunday winner Jazz It Up at last October¡¯s Magic Million Ready-To-Run Sales.

Then a two-year-old, the Dubai Destination gelding went under the hammer for A$135,000 with prominent owner Tang Weng Fei one of the main partners to buy into the shares under the TSL Stable banner.

Burridge said his son, who is the Asian representative for Magic Millions, liked his type and was also drawn by the pedigree on the dam side.

Jazz It Up (Vlad Duric) holds off a late lunge by Dominator (Mark Ewe) to
win Race 2 on Sunday.

¡°He¡¯s by a very good dam, Ruffles, who is a Newmarket Handicap (1200m) winner,¡± said Burridge.

¡°I¡¯m very happy for Mr Tang Weng Fei who became one of the partners in the horse. This sale does have sorts who carry lots of class and this is where I will be heading to buy horses for next year¡¯s two-year-old series.¡±

The 2010 champion trainer, who had the lucky hand with Dark Matter in the inaugural Singapore Golden Horseshoe series this year, would however not put Jazz It Up, his 50th winner for the season, in the same league.

Jazz It Up was sent out the $11 joint favourite with Magical Sunset (Joao Moreira) who, after running in the leading bunch, found nothing in the home straight to finish down the field.

¡°He¡¯s no champion but I think he can definitely improve from today¡¯s run,¡± said Burridge of Jazz It Up who scraped him by a nose from the fast-finishing $217 longshot Dominator (Mark Ewe).

¡°He got a bit lost when he hit the lead in the home straight, but he¡¯s done a good job to get there on time.¡±

Winning jockey Vlad Duric was also relieved the winning post arrived on time and agreed with Burridge that Jazz It Up still has room for improvement.

¡°He bounced out quite well but started to throw his head around,¡± said Duric. ¡°In all fairness to him, he was caught three wide and he only started to overrace when he came back for me.

¡°I felt he also got to the front way too soon. There is a lot more to come out of him after this race.¡±

After being one of the best away, Jazz It Up was eased out in third to allow the pair of Bale (Alan Munro) and Cool Luke (Saimee Jumaat) to battle for the lead.

Turning for home, Jazz It Up made his bid on the outside of Bale as Cool Luke gradually dropped out of contention. Well ridden by Duric, Jazz It Up looked all poised to collect the victory but Dominator, revelling in the rain-affected track, flashed home on the outside to collar him right on the line, but the photo finish showed that Jazz It Up had held on by the barest of margins.

The winning time was 1min 13.09secs.
