Under the lights at Kranji on Friday the 3rd September saw the Steven Burridge trained Sonic produce yet another stellar run from a wide alley to give the six-year-old Australian bred by Tale Of The Cat from the Green Desert mare Manu, to record his seventh win from 38 starts.

Young up and coming apprentice rider M Firdaus showed no sign of inexperience in the early stages of the race taking the galloper straight to the front after drawing a wide gate in 12 and settling nicely to control the pace from the front. Burridge commented

¡°I said to the youngster to go forward and try and get across. If something wants to kick up inside you then let them go, but I¡¯m happy to lead if nothing else does.

Slotting in the box seat was the ever consistent Martel, first starter Hoss Cartwright on the pace, with Daring Journey taking closer order. These runners held their position in the running line with the field strung out with the pace of the race high and good sectionals recorded. Sonic did it well at the top of the straight out by two and a half lengths before the apprentice went for home.

With the drop in class and the 4kg claim, the gelding showed his ability in the run to the line to win every bit as easy as the one a quarter margin suggested. Martel grinded away with Rena Cross flashing home late to round out the placing. Burridge said post race ¡°He rode him well in front and got a soft run and when he went for him in the straight he had a good kick.¡±

Sonic was purchased from the Magic Millions sales on the Gold Coast and has now increased his prize money to over $280,000 for the Lim¡¯s Connections who have been long term supporters of the Burridge Racing Stable.
