Prize Money: $125,000

Jockey: Mark Gallagher
Friday the 13th proved lucky for leading trainer Steve Burridge with a win to
the five-year-old Australian-bred by Falvelon from the Pekan mare Pekan Lady,
Bionic Boy in the Open Class 1200m race under the lights at Kranji.
Stepping up in class and coming up against horses such as Amadeus Mozart (2nd),
Capablanca (3rd) and Tumbulgum, Bionic Boy proved too good under the light
weight with jockey Mark Gallagher on board.
Early pace setter Locus Standi set a high tempo that played right into the hands
of Bionic Boy with Gallagher opting to ride the 5yr old mid field after drawing
a favourable barrier in 2. With good gate speed which the horse has been renound
for and getting a nice run on the turn, Gallagher went for home on the galloper
and hung on well in the straight too score his sixth win from seventeen starts.
Capablanca and Amadeus Mozart who filled the minor placing were no match for the
gelding. Post race Burridge said ˇ°Weights are a telling factor in horse racing,
he got into the race off a light-weightˇ±. Burridge had no hesitation in backing
up the pocket seized galloper saying ˇ°I was confident he would run well on the
back up.ˇ±
In
career best form of late, with a win over the 1000m open race three starts prior
and a second placing to the star filly Mexican Rose on the 23rd of August,
Bionic Boy has now won more than $400,000 in prize money after being purchased
from Wade Burridge at Magic Millions.
