(D Beasley)
The feature race of the afternoon saw the Burridge trained Maple
Star produce yet another impressive run for the connections of the Maple Star
Stable with inform Jockey (R Stewart) on board guiding the 4 yr old gelding to
the win and taking a slice of the $95,000 prize money on offer and picking up
the Korean Racing Authority Trophy.
Jumping from a wide gate saw Maple Star take a position in the
running line mid field getting cover from eventual 2nd place getter Just a Man
with the other Burridge trained runner in the race Happy Everybody taking
closer order from a favourable inside gate. Coming into the straight saw early
pace setter Perfect Pins fade badly leaving the door open for Maple Star to
strike down the outside that was urged along and responding well from hard
riding from Stewart.
The money was on the mark with Maple Star carrying only 50kg
getting up to win by half a length from Just a Man with Happy Everybody staying
on to run fourth fresh up from a spell. Burridge commented post race “The light
weight was really a big factor, he only had 50kg and I think it told in the
end.”
A four-year-old New Zealand-bred gelding by Pins from the Centaine
mare Hideaway, Maple Star has now won three of his six starts with his prize
money increasing to over $160,000.
