Treble puts Burridge well clear in title race

The Steven Burridge juggernaut continued on Friday night when he added yet another treble to his ever-growing tally of winners.

He got the ball rolling with an early double when Inuvik broke through for victory in the opening race, the $35,000 Maiden Stakes over 1200m before Sonic took out the Class 4 Div. 2 Stakes over 1400m two races later.

He racked-up his fifth treble for the year when Excellent Beauty took out the final event on the program, the $55,000 Class 4 Div. 1 Stakes over 1400m.

Burridge has held sway in the Trainer¡¯s Premiership since February and has now trained 67 winners for the season at a healthy strike rate of almost 16%.

He currently holds down a 20 win lead over six-time premiership winner Laurie Laxon.

Inuvik (Ruzaini Supien) continues the form of trainer Steven Burridge.

Ruzaini Supien got the ball rolling for Burridge guiding Inuvik to a two length victory over Bold Rob (Sahren Sanusi) with Thousand Light (Joao Moreira) a head away third.

Burridge said Inuvik was bred to be a good horse but it took a wind operation for the gelding to produce his best.

¡°He was an A$350,000 yearling purchase so he should have a bit of class about him,¡± said Burridge.

¡°He had a wind operation before he came to us and even though he¡¯s had the operation he¡¯s breathing a lot better now and might be able go on with it.

¡°He shows a bit of potential, but just how far he might go I¡¯m just not sure yet.¡±

Burridge said he believes Inuvik will get a bit further and had considered starting the entire in a Class 4 1400m.

¡°I did look at that but I thought it was a bit strong,¡± said Burridge. ¡°I thought coming back to the maiden and getting a win under the belt was a better option.

¡°He¡¯s done a good job as it¡¯s never easy to win with 59kg.¡±

Inuvik is one of the best bred gallopers racing in Singapore. The five-year-old entire is a son of Redoute¡¯s Choice from the Last Tycoon mare Strawberry Fields and is owned by the Maple Stars Stable.

Burridge praised the winning ride of Ruzaini who didn¡¯t panic after being trapped a little wide on a solid pace set by Bold Rob and Feeling Good (Nelito Cunha).

Inuvik drew the second widest barrier in the 14 horse field and Supien allowed the entire to roll forward in the early stages.

¡°He had a bit of luck getting in even though he was trapped three wide,¡± said Burridge. ¡°He had a bit of cover and that was a big plus.

¡°I said to him to go forward as I didn¡¯t think he could get back and finish over them.

¡°The kid (Ruzaini) rode him well and timed his run to perfection.¡±

Landing his first win in four starts, Inuvik has returned connections around $30,000 in prizemoney.

Sonic (Muhd Firdaus) gives Burridge another good night out.

Whereas Inuvik came from back off the pace, apprentice Muhd Firdaus took Sonic to the front guiding him to an all-the-way victory by a half-length over Martel (Saimee Jumaat) with Rena Cross (Vlad Duric) the same margin away third.

Sonic was dropping in grade from a last start fourth in Class 3 grade behind Dynamic Dan on August 1 over 1200m.

Although up in weight, the claim for Firdaus brought the gelding in with 53.5kg, just 2kg more than he carried against the tougher opposition at his last start.

¡°He¡¯s been so honest throughout his career,¡± said Burridge. ¡°But this is his class. He just finds the Class 3 horses a bit tough.¡±

Again Burridge praised the winning ride of the young apprentice who was able to find the front and rate the gelding to perfection.

¡°He was able to get across quite easily and that is what won him the race,¡± said Burridge.

¡°I said to the youngster (Firdaus) to go forward and try and get across. If something wants to kick up inside you then let them go, but I¡¯m happy to lead if nothing else does.

¡°He rated him well in front and got a soft run and when he went for him in the straight he had a good kick.¡±

Burridge said Sonic had some minor joint issues that needed monitoring, but said if the gelding pulls-up well from Friday night¡¯s success he may back him up next week.

¡°I¡¯ll have a look at a race next week with him and if it looks weak enough I might send him around,¡± said Burridge.

¡°Even though he¡¯s got a few minor niggles, he¡¯s fit and in form and he may be worth giving another chance in the tougher grade.¡±

Sonic, a six-year-old Australian bred by Tale Of The Cat from the Green Desert mare Manu, landed his seventh win from 38 starts and took his prizemoney to around $280,000 for Lim¡¯s Stable.

Ridden by Ismail Saifudin, Excellent Beauty made it the treble in leading throughout by a length-and-a-quarter over Touch The Line (Oscar Chavez) with Holtmail (Barend Vorster) a nose away third.

Excellent Beauty, a four-year-old mare by No Excuse Needed from the Desert Prince mare Chatto Creek, has now won two of her nine starts and topped the $100,000 mark in prizemoney with the victory.
