The Steven Burridge juggernaut
continued on Friday night when he added yet another treble to his
ever-growing tally of winners. He got the ball rolling with an
early double when
Burridge has held sway in the
Trainer¡¯s Premiership since February and has now
trained 67 winners for the season at a healthy strike rate of almost 16%. He currently holds down
a 20 win lead over six-time premiership winner Laurie Laxon.
Ruzaini Supien got the ball
rolling for Burridge guiding Inuvik to a two length victory over Bold Rob
(Sahren Sanusi) with Thousand Light (Joao Moreira) a head away third. Burridge said ¡°He was an A$350,000 yearling purchase so he should have a
bit of class about him,¡± said Burridge. ¡°He had a wind operation before he came to us and even
though he¡¯s had the operation he¡¯s
breathing a lot better now and might be able go on with it. ¡°He shows a bit of potential, but just how far he might go
I¡¯m just not sure yet.¡± Burridge said he believes ¡°I did look at that but I thought it was a bit strong,¡± said Burridge. ¡°I thought coming
back to the maiden and getting a win under the belt was a better option. ¡°He¡¯s done a good job as it¡¯s never easy to win with 59kg.¡± Inuvik is one of the best bred
gallopers racing in Burridge praised the winning
ride of Ruzaini who didn¡¯t panic after being trapped
a little wide on a solid pace set by Bold Rob and Feeling Good (Nelito
Cunha). ¡°He had a bit of luck getting in even though he was
trapped three wide,¡± said Burridge. ¡°He
had a bit of cover and that was a big plus. ¡°I said to him to go forward as I didn¡¯t
think he could get back and finish over them. ¡°The kid (Ruzaini) rode him well and timed his run to
perfection.¡± Landing his first win in four
starts,
Whereas Inuvik came from back off the pace, apprentice Muhd Firdaus
took Sonic to the front guiding him to an all-the-way victory by a
half-length over Martel (Saimee Jumaat) with Rena Cross (Vlad Duric) the same
margin away third. Sonic was dropping in grade from a last start fourth in Class 3 grade
behind Dynamic Dan on August 1 over 1200m. Although up in weight, the claim for Firdaus brought the gelding in
with 53.5kg, just 2kg more than he carried against the tougher opposition at
his last start. ¡°He¡¯s been so honest
throughout his career,¡±
said Burridge. ¡°But
this is his class. He just finds the Class 3 horses a bit tough.¡± Again Burridge praised the winning ride of the young apprentice who
was able to find the front and rate the gelding to perfection. ¡°He
was able to get across quite easily and that is what won him the race,¡± said Burridge. ¡°I
said to the youngster (Firdaus) to go forward and try and get across. If
something wants to kick up inside you then let them go, but I¡¯m happy to lead if
nothing else does. ¡°He
rated him well in front and got a soft run and when he went for him in the
straight he had a good kick.¡± Burridge said Sonic had some minor joint issues that needed
monitoring, but said if the gelding pulls-up well from Friday night¡¯s success he may back
him up next week. ¡°I¡¯ll have a look at a
race next week with him and if it looks weak enough I might send him around,¡± said Burridge. ¡°Even
though he¡¯s got a few minor
niggles, he¡¯s fit and in form and
he may be worth giving another chance in the tougher grade.¡± Sonic, a six-year-old Australian bred by Tale Of The Cat from the |
