Apprentice makes his mark at first start

Australian apprentice Ryan Plumb could not have asked for a better start to his Singapore stint.

The 17 year-old made an immediate impact on the local racing crowd, when he booted home Steven Burridge trained Lim's Connection for a sound win at his first race start, with the three-year-old son of Catbird displaying precocious talent in the $65,000 Restricted Maiden (1200m).

Trained by Steven Burridge, Lim’s Connection has plenty of ability and despite his somewhat erratic barrier behaviour, he showed he was a horse to be reckoned with in the future, when he beat off the favourite Fantastic Gold, ridden by international rider Robbie Fradd.

"I am so pleased that he won," said a relieved Burridge.

"The owner (Lim’s Stable) has been very good to me, he’s stuck by me and I was very keen indeed for him to win tonight.

"Ryan has done a good job, I hadn’t actually seen him ride in races before, but he certainly did the job well tonight."

Plumb was modest at his success giving all credit to the horse.

"That’s a great feeling to win at my first ride here but I do think he was the better horse on the day." Plumb commented.

"I was quite confident when I was sitting outside the leader, my horse was always travelling really well.

"He’s still quite green and he’s got plenty to learn yet but he’s got plenty of ability and I think he’ll go through quite a few classes."

As without doubt will his rider who has shown maturity beyond his years since he started race riding just over a year ago.

Lim’s Connection finished three and a quarter lengths ahead of Fantastic Goal with Cheyenne Star (Ronnie Stewart) a further length away third, with the 1200m clocked at 1.11.80.
