Jockey Vlad Duric believes High Noon has a bright future following his victory in the $95,000 Open Benchmark 83 Stakes over 1800m on Sunday.

Having his first start in five weeks, High Noon raced a little keenly early in the race before scoring a three-quarter length victory over Empire Crown (Olivier Placais) with King Faalcon (Joao Moreira) a neck away third.

¡°When he learns how to settle I think he¡¯ll have a pretty good future as a stayer,¡± said Duric.

Vlad Duric guides High Noon to victory on Sunday.

¡°He pulled most of the way today. He was jumping from 1400m to 1800m and hadn¡¯t raced in five weeks.

¡°He was giving away weight to the second and third horses and he dug deep.

¡°It has been a pretty good win.¡±

Trainer Steven Burridge said he trialled High Noon during the week after the gelding missed a run on March 19 when a race was cancelled.

¡°I had him in a 1600m Class 2 race in which he had 51kg,¡± said Burridge. ¡°That race was going to get him ready for the extra trip here.

¡°I had to trial him during the week as he can pull a bit in his races. He was jumping from 1400m to 1800m and hadn¡¯t raced for about five weeks.

¡°It has been a good effort.¡±

Burridge said he would give High Noon every opportunity to make his way to the Group 1 Singapore Derby over 2000m in July.

¡°That¡¯s where I would like to get him to,¡± said Burridge. ¡°I think he can handle the trip.

He¡¯s only lightly-raced and still improving. He¡¯s a promising horse.¡±

With Sunday¡¯s victory, High Noon topped the $200,000 mark in prizemoney after recording his fifth win in 10 starts.

High Noon is a four-year-old by Scenic from the Old Spice mare Spice On Ice and came up to Singapore as a maiden galloper from Perth.
