General Conspiracy justified his short quote of $14 to finally
score his maiden win in the opening event on Saturday. The General Nediym four-year-old seems to have a solid fan base
in Kranji as he still had many admirers in the the $35,000 Maiden race over
1800m despite being a costly failure at his last two starts when punted
down to favouritism as well. The loyal supporters' faith was repaid manifold when Robbie
Fradd guided the Steven Burridge-trained galloper through a narrow gap
between
“He’s done a good job. He's been knocking on the door
and started favourite at his last couple of starts, but didn’t quite run
on, but I’m glad he’s made good today,” said Burridge. “At his last run, I had told Robbie that if he begins to take
him forward, but he was too far back and started to hang when he was put on
the fence. “It was still a disappointing run. Today’s longer trip probably
suited but he didn’t beat a strong field either.” General Conspiracy, who carries the orange and blue spots
colours of Arexevan Racing Stable, travelled in midfield between
runners before taking closer order down the side to produce a
nice turn of foot inside the last furlong, which suitably impressed
his rider. Fradd was however the first to admit he had drawn some valuable
lessons from his first sit atop Burridge’s galloper at his previous run. “He gave a good kick today whereas he was very one-paced at his
last run,” commented Fradd. “I didn’t know him then and may have stayed too far back. I was
not going to let this happen again today. “He had a good position in transit today, and though he was
still hanging a fair bit, he finished very well today. “That was definitely not his last win here. There’s a lot more
scope in this fellow.” |
