Trainer Steven Burridge (pictured)
had a welcome change of luck when Mr Scribble scored in the
$75,000 Class 3 Stakes over 1400 metres on Sunday.
Burridge had endured a number
of placings leading up to Mr Scribble’s win, just his fifth
victory of the season.
“We’ve had some tough luck,
running a number of placings, but it’s good to get a win for
the owner,” Burridge said.
“He’s had something like 10
second placings since his last win and to win for him makes me
very happy.”
Mr Scribble is owned by Masa
Otani’s Big Valley Stable and Burrdige said the owner had been
a good stable client over the past 18 months.
“He’s done it pretty tough with
a number of placings over the last 12 months, but he enjoys
his racing which is great,” Burridge said.
Mr Scribble, ridden by John
Powell, scored a length victory over Flying Langfuhr (Saimee
Jumaat) with Lion City Hero (Mark Ewe) a neck further back in
third spot.
Powell was able to give Mr
Scribble the run of the race in third position behind the
speed set by Lion City Hero and Screaming Eagle before moving
up outside the leader on the turn. Powell held Mr Scribble
together for as long as possible before kicking clear and
holding on to a winning margin.
Burridge admitted to concerns
prior to the race with Mr Scribble – who he said had a few
breathing problems – but his concern today was over the
firmness of the track.
“I was worried the track may
have been too hard for him,” Burridge said. “John rode him
perfectly and he was able to break through for a good win.”
Mr Scribble is an
Australian-bred four-year-old by King Of Roses from the
Thunder Gulch mare Green Mile and Sunday’s victory was his
first in Singapore from eight starts after two wins in
Australia over 1200 metres and 1400 metres. |
