| Vaughan Palachie - FARRIER
Vaughan is a highly experienced farrier, who has a depth of knowledge which is combined with years of practical expertise. In addition to his skills in farriery, worthy of a special mention are his abilities in horsemanship, and his knowledge of the broader equine world. This extensive set of skills makes Vaughan an excellent farrier as well as a ‘darn useful pair of hands’!
Born in the North Auckland, New Zealand in the late 60’s, Vaughan’s passion for horses started from quite young. His mother is a keen horsewoman and kept her own horse, a hobby which her son Vaughan soon became involved in. It wasn’t long before he was riding and his equestrian activities soon developed to the demanding and exciting areas of hunting and show jumping.
Vaughan’s first foray into shoeing took place when he started helping a family friend shoe his mum’s horse. Not long after that, he started his 4 year apprenticeship based in New Zealand.
During his career as a farrier which spans nearly 20 years, 2 continents and 4 countries, Vaughan has gained vast experience across all sectors of the equine world. This has involved him being responsible for shoeing and hoof health for many types of horses, in various types of conditions and environments, across a diverse range of disciplines including, dressage, polo, jumping, carriage driving, pony club rallies, endurance and of course, thoroughbred racing.
Vaughan has been working at the Singapore Turf Club at Kranji since 2002, having been head-hunted whilst working as head farrier at The Singapore Polo Club. Vaughan now shoes for trainers Steven Burridge and John Meagher.
At Steven Burridge racing, Vaughan is a critical member of the team, and is responsible for shoeing our entire yard of 50 valuable thoroughbreds. Hardworking and reliable, Vaughan also enjoys the challenge and pressure of keeping expensive equines on their feet and enjoys working alongside trainer and vets alike in their effort to uphold the Steve Burridge reputation for perfection. |
