| ABOUT US
With over 20 experienced and world class trainers at Kranji, Steve and his team know they have to be at the top of their game, week in week out, to be successful.
Steve, who is ably supported by his wife Julie at the stables, is always looking for an edge, be it the latest in feeds, science or just plain hard work.
What sets Steve apart from the majority of the other trainers is the fact that both he and Julie ride most of the horses at the track.
This enables them to dictate the pace of each gallop ensuring they know exactly what level of fitness each horse is up to and to ensure the horses are progressing at an acceptable level at any particular time.
It also gives him an extremely important insight into each horses action, education and well being. Most of the stables horses work in groups to give them race condition confidence at the track.
Steve is also very methodical at the stables and treats all his horses individually, in both the way he feeds them and trains them. The stable has had great success with horses with less then endearing traits including nervous types and lazy workers.
Steve is also a great believer in the use of rest for horses and has no hesitation in sending the horses for a spell when needed. Sometimes it just a few days but the results have been very rewarding, especially in the harsh conditions of a tropical climate.
As science is increasingly playing a huge part in racing world wide, Steve, with the help of his wife Julie, keeps a close eye on any developments and have recently sought the services of Alan Davie, a leader in the field of science in thoroughbred racing.
Alan has introduced the stable both heart rate monitors and a lactate machine, which is used to check lactate levels during specific workouts on both the track and treadmill. The results are already starting to pay a dividend.
Steve also keeps up to date with all the latest in horse feeds and nutritional advice. He is a believer in feeding plenty of fibre and each horse gets a 24 hour supply of quality hay. This is instrumental in keeping the horses as natural as possible in potentially stressful domestic environment.
Hardwork, individual care, teamwork, science and common sense are the backbone of the stable.
