Trainer Steven
Burridge pulled the right rein in electing to continue the preparation of
Alacarte who was successful in the $65,000 Panasonic Broadcast Novice Stakes
over 1400m on Sunday. Burridge had
planned to send the three-year-old son of Umatilla for a break after his win
on August 30, but the gelding did so well in the stable following the race
that he elected to press on.
Ridden to perfection by Benny
Woodworth, Alacarte scored by a head over Prince Pareto (Ronnie Stewart) with
Doremi La (Mark Gallagher) a length-and-a-quarter away third. ¡°The plan was to tip him out after his
last win but he did so well in the stable,¡± said
Burridge. ¡°I saw this race on the program and I knew
he would get in with a lightweight ¡°I¡¯ll just see
how he does over the next few days and make a decision on whether to turn him
out or keep him going. ¡°At this stage I favour a break as he¡¯s done a very good job since he came into the stable.¡± Alacarte was an
A$130,000 purchase at the Magic Millions Ready To Run Sale around 12 months
ago and Burridge was encouraged to take him on through his brother World
Airlines, a galloper that Burridge also prepared. ¡°He reminded me so much of World
Airlines,¡± said Burrdige. ¡°The
1400m was his (World Airlines) pet distance but he was also effective at the
mile. ¡°This bloke has already shown a liking
for the 1400m and I¡¯ve got no doubt he will handle a
mile and possibly a little bit further.¡± Big Valley
Stable owner Masa Otani was not on hand to witness the victory of Alacarte as
he is enroute back from ¡°I rang the owner earlier in the week to
tell him the horse was in,¡± said Burridge. ¡°He said he was in ¡°I couldn¡¯t get
hold of him so this will be a nice surprise for him when he gets off the
plane.¡± In winning his second race in five starts, Alacarte, who is from the Final Card mare Euchre, has now won around $95,000 for the Big Valley Stable. |
