Trainer Steven Burridge unearthed a lightweight Singapore Gold Cup candidate after the win of To Arms in the $95,000 Kranji Stakes B over 2000m on Sunday.

Ridden by Vlad Duric and carrying 56.5kg, Risky Business sprinted away from the opposition in the last 200m to score by three lengths over Clint (Joao Moreira) with Zac Missile (Danny Beasley) three-and-a-quarter lengths away third.

The win completed a treble for Duric who won the opening two races aboard Shen Kim and Baba Gift.

He made it a four-timer for the afternoon by taking out the final event on the programme aboard Model Citizen in the $55,000 Class 4 Div. 2 Stakes.

Jockey Vlad Duric bags a treble aboard the Steven Burridge-trained Risky Business.

Burridge said Risky Business had come back from a break following his third placing behind Top Spin at Kuala Lumpur in June in excellent order.

The gelding was having his fourth run back from a break and appreciated the rise in distance on Sunday.

¡°His last run was very good,¡± said Burridge of his fifth placing, beaten three-and-a-quarter lengths, behind Superb on October 8.

¡°He had no chance really the way the race was run. It was a sprint home and they ran their last 600m in 33.5 secs.

¡°That was too tough for him from where he was and I did have concerns today that there may not have been enough pace.

¡°But I was a lot happier when Pina Colarda went forward from the 1000m and put a bit of pace into the race.¡±

Burridge added that the 2000m of Sunday¡¯s race was a stepping stone to the Group 1 $1.35 million Singapore Gold Cup over 2200m on November 14.

¡°We¡¯ll probably head that way with him now,¡± said Burridge. ¡°He should get into the race on the minimum and he gives the indication he will run the trip.

¡°He¡¯s fit and in form and the Gold Cup should be run at a solid tempo.¡±

Duric had no hesitation in recommending Risky Business as a likely Gold Cup candidate although the gelding won¡¯t get a weight anywhere near his weight range.

¡°He relies very much on tempo,¡± said Duric. ¡°He¡¯s a backmarker and needs the pace on.

¡°It wasn¡¯t there last time but he ran home very well. Under the circumstance it was a very good run.

¡°I was a little concerned again today, but when the speed quickened passing the 1000m it made me a lot happier.

¡°Steve just told me to ride for luck and it panned out just perfectly for us.

¡°He¡¯s in great form and with 50kg in the Gold Cup you would have to think he would be some sort of chance even though he will be out of my weight range.¡±

Risky Business tipped over the $500,000 mark in prizemoney won since he scoring at his first start in Singapore in December 2007.

A six-year-old by Danehill Dancer from the Star Watch mare Sky Watch, Risky Business has won seven of his 39 starts for the Results Stable.

¡°I think he resented the whip,¡± said Moreira. ¡°He wanted to stop when I hit him in two consecutive strides.

¡°I put the whip away and just pumped away hands and heels. If I had not ridden the horse before I don¡¯t think he would have won the race.¡±

Benji¡¯s Glory, a four-year-old by Untouchable from the Romeo mare Lover Punt, landed his fourth victory in 16 starts and took his prizemoney past the $200,000 mark for the Benjamin Racing No 2 Stable with Sunday¡¯s success.
