| It certainly is a Risky Business |

Australian-bred gelding Risky Business, winner of the $65,000 Novice Stakes over 1200m on Friday night, is well named if you ask trainer Steven Burridge.
Soon after the four-year-old arrived in Singapore, Risky Business became cast in his box, rolled and tore the ligaments in a foreleg. The injury resulted in him spending the next 10 months on the sidelines and Burridge wasn’t able to do any work with the gelding for four months. Risky Business (Noel Callow) scores handsomely, running 1min 11.8secs for the 1200m on Polytrack. “That’s how he got his name,” said Burridge. “I had him sold twice before he hurt himself.
“I said to (wife) Julie ‘what do you want to name him’ as she came up with ‘Risky Business’. It was the perfect name for him.”
Ridden by Noel Callow, Risky Business appreciated the furious early pace to race clear and record a three-and-a-quarter length win over Break Free (Saimee Jumaat) with Bing Is Best (Jackie Low) a nose away third.
Burridge said Risky Business had had a few “niggles” since but that he was improving all the time.
“He’s been a little bit backward,” said Burridge. “A little immature and green, but he’s starting to put it altogether now.
“Just how far he will go, I’m not sure, but at least he’s paying his way.”
A half-brother to high quality local galloper Lim’s Fighter, Risky Business raced twice in Australia as To Arms before being purchased by Burridge.
Friday night was his tenth start since arriving in Singapore. He won on debut over 1200m in Initiation grade and also has recorded a second and five thirds for prizemoney of around $135,000. Risky Business is by Danehill Dancer from the Star Watch mare Sky Watch and is owned by Burridge. |
