Steven Burridge didn’t hold out a lot of hope for Promise Me Gold in the $55,000 Class 4 (Div 1) (1400m) at Kranji on Sunday, after all the four-year-old had drawn out in the boondocks.

Promise Me Gold didn’t know that horses were supposed to find it difficult to win from there as well as being caught four wide with no cover throughout, so the Australian bred just did what he’s supposed to do and that’s gallop.

He let down in the straight and sprouted wings to fly home a very easy three and three quarters of a length winner from the fast finishing Stradivarious (Mark Gallagher) with Piercing (Affandi) in third place a further short head away.

“I don’t know how he did that!” said Burridge.

“I didn’t think he could win from the outside gate and certainly not being so wide all the way.

“He’s bred to get further but he hasn’t learnt how to relax in his races yet so whether or not he’d get a strong mile I really don’t know.”

It was Promise Me Gold’s 11th career start with the son of Made Of Gold (x Home Export) now having two wins to his name along with a third place.
