Switchblade heading towards Derby |

Switchblade will be given his chance at the highest four-year-old company following his record breaking victory in the $75,000 Kranji Stakes C over 1700m on Friday night.
Trainer Steven Burridge said the impeccably bred four-year-old was deserving of his chance in the Group 1 $1 million Emirates Singapore Derby over 2000m on July 12.

Switchblade scored by two-and-three-quarter lengths over Abdicate (Benny
Woodworth) with Subordinate (Jacky Low) three-quarters-of-a-length away
third. ¡°I suppose he deserves his chance now in the Derby,¡± said Burridge after learning that Switchblade had lowered the 1700m Polytrack record to 1 min 46.6 secs with his victory.
¡°They are only four-year-olds once and he¡¯s in excellent form.
¡°It¡¯s just a pity the Derby isn¡¯t run on the Polytrack as he just loves the surface,¡± joked Burridge.
Switchblade is one of the best bred gallopers racing in Singapore. His sire Fusaichi Pegasus was a Kentucky Derby winner in the US while dam, the Danehill mare Dane Ripper, was a multiple Group 1 winner in Australia, including the Cox Plate.
¡°On his breeding I think he should handle the distance of the Derby,¡± said Burridge. ¡°The only thing is that his turf form is a bit average.
¡°But he¡¯s got better as his races have stepped up in distance.¡±
Burridge praised the winning of Moreira who able to get him in from his wide draw.
¡°He rode him well,¡± said Burridge. ¡°He was weaving in and out and at one stage had to yank him over heels.
¡°He¡¯s such a big horse and I was a bit concerned he would get unbalanced, but Joao was able to pick him up and get him going again.¡±
Switchblade recorded his third win for the Arexevan Racing Stable from 11 starts and took his prizemoney to around the $170,000 mark with his victory. |
