A ground saving rails hugging ride by Glen Boss paved the way for a first-up win by Drovetti in the $125,000 Kranji Stakes A over 1400m on Sunday.

Well supported in betting to run a $29 dividend, Drovetti scored by two-and-a-quarter lengths over Intercept (Vlad Duric) with Mr Timely (Danny Beasley) a length-and-three-quarters away third.

Boss made the most of Drovetti¡¯s inside draw and although the track was rated good he felt the ¡°edge¡± was off it.

Drovetti (Glen Boss) unleashes a devastating turn of foot to score in Race 10.

¡°He¡¯s a horse that likes a bit of cut in the ground and there was a little bit of give there to suit him,¡± said Boss.

¡°I always felt the inside was the place to be and when the field opened up it was just perfect.

¡°I was always confident of him being hard to beat in the run. About 100m after the start he put his head on his chest and relaxed so well.

¡°He was very strong to the line and he looks like he¡¯s going to be in for a good campaign.¡±

Trainer Steven Burridge said Drovetti had come back from a break in excellent order and he went into Sunday¡¯s race quietly confident of success.

A couple of barrier trials had the gelding in good shape and Burridge¡¯s confidence grew after a solid trial last Tuesday.

¡°He¡¯s been a good little horse for the stable,¡± said Burridge.

¡°I told Glen to not leave the fence on him after drawing barrier one and just ride him for luck.

¡°He trialled really well last Tuesday and I was confident of him running really well.¡±

It was Drovetti¡¯s first victory since February 2010 and Burridge doesn¡¯t have any ambitious plans with the rising seven-year-old.

¡°He¡¯s got a few niggles which need attention but so far he¡¯s in pretty good order,¡± said Burridge.

¡°He should have won the EW Barker last year when he got held up in the straight, but at this stage we haven¡¯t got any big plans for him.

¡°We¡¯ll just potter about with him and hopefully pick-up another race or two with him.¡±

An Australian-bred six-year-old by Mossman from the Success Express mare Clareta, Drovetti has won seven of his 33 starts in Singapore for the Ninetyfive Emperor Stable and collected around $600,000 in prizemoney.
