Trainer Steven Burridge made it a winning quartet of winners for the night when Teen Angel led throughout to take the $65,000 Graduation Stakes over 1400m on Friday night.

Ridden by Ruzaini Supien, Teen Angel scored by four-and-a-half lengths over Benji’s Glory (Joao Moreira) with Blasting Torpedo (Michael Yap) a length away third.

Burridge’s four winners for the night take him to 64 winners for the season and 17 clear of second placed, six-time premiership winner Laurie Laxon.

Teen Angel (Ruzaini Supien) brings up a four-timer for leading trainer Steven
Burridge.

Burridge, who was booked to return home from Japan on Saturday night, pushed forward his return flight and arrived on Friday morning.

“I was up there for the sales and I knew I had some good hopes tonight,” said Burridge.

“I didn’t want to miss out on all the action, so I got my flight back earlier.

“I’ve got some very good staff with me and I knew they were left in good hands. (Wife) Julie and Peter (Gilman) have led the way and tonight is recognition for their hard work, but that goes for all the staff as well.”

Burridge paid Teen Angel a big compliment following her all-the-way success and said the now four-year-old looked likely to get a mile (1600m) after Friday night’s win.

“She has a big heart,” said Burridge. “For her to kick away after being under pressure on the turn was a very big effort.

“She is just so honest and tries her heart out.

“I was a little worried about her jumping from the 1000m to the 1400m, but she did trial well the other day.

“She is lightly-framed and doesn’t need a lot of work. She is going to improve on that and I think on that performance she should get a mile.”

Teen Angel has just had the six starts in Singapore, registering three wins and two minor placings and she has now topped the $120,000 mark in prizemoney.

Bred in New Zealand, Teen Angel is by My Halo from the Danasinga mare Lamri and is owned by David Hegerty.
