Lim's Ocean sails home a winner

Lim’s Ocean made a welcome return to the winner’s stall on Saturday following a well-judged ride by jockey Din Azis.

Dropped back to last from the start, Lim’s Ocean, who is only one a quartet of Lim’s Stable runners in trainer Steven Burridge’s yard, was spotting leader Innocent Star the best part of twelve lengths down the backstraight, but slowly made ground by circling the 11-horse field from the 900m to hit the line first half-a-length ahead of Ace Arizona.

It was the O’Reilly six-year-old’s first win since his only victory registered last year in June in a 1600m race as well.

Lim's Ocean (Din Azis) storms home to take Race 5 on Saturday.

The three backmarkers in the early stages of the $55,000 Class 4 Division 1 race (1600m) actually finished in the first three, with Hello Clint who together with Lim’s Ocean and Ace Arizona, made up the rear guard.

Eternal Luck became uncontrollable when his rider apprentice Cheng Han Kok lost his off-side stirrup about 300m from the jump. The Dr Yeoh Kheng Chye-trained galloper was eventually eased up right on the outside rails of the Long Course E turf track.

“That was a good staying effort. The mile seems to be his go,” said Burridge of his winner No 30.

“He is an in-and-out kind of horse, but today he was on his right trip, had a light weight (52.5kg) and everything went well for him.”

“It’s good to have another winner for Mr Lim Siah Mong and his partners as I only prepare a small team for them.”

Lim’s Ocean is the only the third 2008 winner saddled by the Australian conditioner for the 2007 Singapore champion owner. Lim's Connection scored in February while Sonic saluted last June in the famous grey and red bands colours.

With the bulk of their horses under trainer John Meagher’s care, the Lim’s Stable also has Lim’s Connection and Gallant with Burridge.

Hello Clint (Gavin McKeon) had an ideal race sitting at the rear but just did not have that “ping” in the concluding stages to run third, 2 ½ lengths away.

One of the hard-luck stories of the race has to be Hadrian (Danny Beasley) who was hopelessly snookered on the fence behind runners at the 200m. By the time he found daylight, the two main protagonists Lim’s Ocean and Ace Arizona had already flown.

“If he had come out on time, I won’t say he would have won, but he would have been in the finish,” said his trainer, Meagher.
