Steven Burridge’s Jeram Frankie showed his true staying ability on Sunday at Kranji when coming from near the tail of the field at the 600m, to win the $65,000 Initiation over 1600m.

Ridden by Richard Lim, Jeram Frankie was completely outpaced as the milers got into gear and was lolloping along at the rear without a worry in the world.

Out in front Universe Star (Oscar Chavez) was leading from Scorpio (Andrew Calder) who was four wide and Breadwinner back on the rails with Sivan on board.

The order changed little throughout with the majority of the gallopers having a tough time on the rain affected track.

Lim meanwhile was starting to get moving on Jeram Frankie and his 600m long run paid off with Lim weaving between horses on the inside to grab Scorpio on the line by a head, with El Dorado (Kanichiro Fujii) four lengths away third.

“He’s just a very, very one paced stayer,” said Burridge.

“I put him in the bullring this morning to wake him up! I was a bit worried at the 800m I didn’t think I had done enough with him, but he was finishing it off nicely.

“It was a good ride by Richard, if he had of gone around the field he wouldn’t have won.”

Burridge will now look to spell Jeram Frankie, with the three-year-old Blackfriars gelding deserving a break after seven runs this time in.
