The rain that fell at Kranji during race seven saw the first two placegetters in the following race, the $55,000 Class 4 over 1200 metres, get out wide and clearly dominate the opposition in the final stages.

It was the experience of Saimee Jumaat aboard the Steven Burridge-trained White Lightning that enabled the Australian-bred gelding to score a nose victory over Packet Express ridden by Adam Fiezan. In third spot was Challenger, ridden by S Anandan , three lengths away.

The race was run at a steady pace with Zlatko (Benny Woodworth) leading from Lucky Lucky (Shinobu Sakai) with Shinju Star (Ronnie Stewart) and That¡¯s Fast (S John) on their heels.

It was a similar story as the field headed to the hometurn where Saimee elected to ease White Lightning towards the middle of the track.

Despite drifting out in the straight, White Lightning dug deep to hold off the strong finishing Packet Express.

Burridge said White Lightning was an honest galloper.

¡°He¡¯s a real little trier,¡± Burridge said. ¡°The rain came just at the right time and the better going seems to be out wide.

Saimee maintained his lead in the jockey¡¯s premiership with the victory. It was his fifth win for the season.

¡°It was a good game effort,¡± Saimee said of White Lightning¡¯s win. ¡°But the weight is just starting to catch up with him.

¡°He¡¯s honest and tries hard. He had a good run and that helped us in the end.¡±

The win by White Lightning, a four-year-old son of Iglesia, was his fourth from 14 starts.

A $12,000 buy as a two-year-old in Australia , White Lightning is from the Gold Carat mare Greinee Pet and is owned by the Oriole Stable.
